STYLE

The Upside

Why I love them: I bought The Upside’s Panthera Jetset Joggers last autumn and lived in them, dressing them up and down with everything in my wardrobe. So, now that the temperature has dropped a little, I’m excited to get them back out again. A few of you have been asking about them over on IG, so I thought they deserved their own spot on The Weekly Lift.

Sadly, my exact Panthera style (pictured) is now sold out online, but The Upside has brought out a very similar pair this year — the Javan Juliet Pant, in what looks like the same lovely, slinky fabric. I particularly like the split-hem detail on this year’s design, which gives them a slightly smarter feel.

And remember: leopard print is a neutral. It genuinely goes with everything. Wear them casually with trainers and a simple tee or sweatshirt, or dress them up with a great knit, blazer and ballet flats. They’re comfortable, fun and an easy way to make the simplest outfit feel a little more pulled together.

Available: Directly from The Upside and selected independent stockists. I’ve also found them at a great price from The Wild West Sisters — link below.

WELLBEING

Alturist SPF

Why I love it: My sister introduced me to Altruist SPF several years ago and I’ve been using it ever since, switching between their Factor 30 and 50 creams depending on what I need. Over the years, lots of you in the Lulu & Me community have also shared that you use other products from the range, always with really positive reviews.

The brand was founded by consultant dermatologist and skin cancer specialist Dr Andrew Birnie with a simple mission: to make really good sun protection accessible to everyone. Their sunscreens offer broad-spectrum UVA and UVB protection with a 5-star UVA rating, while also being fragrance-free, hypoallergenic and suitable for sensitive and acne-prone skin. And there’s a lovely purpose behind the brand too: for every Altruist product sold, they donate 10p worth of sunscreen to support children with albinism in Africa, where access to sun protection can be lifesaving.

It’s affordable, no-fuss and does exactly what I want my SPF to do, which is why, all these years later, I’m still buying it.

Available: Alturist online

HOME LIFE

The Real Flower Co.

Why I love them: I discovered The Real Flower Company about a year before my diagnosis and quickly became a huge fan, using them whenever I needed flowers for corporate gifting or events. So when I was diagnosed and signed off work, my work team knew exactly what to send me. Throughout my treatment, the most beautiful seasonal bouquets would arrive from their farm, filling my room with the beautiful fragrance of English roses, flowers, herbs and foliage. I have such fond memories of receiving them during that time, and even now, visiting their store takes me straight back to those little moments of loveliness on otherwise pretty difficult days.

The company itself is rather special too - family owned, with a farm-to-vase approach and a real focus on provenance and sustainability.

Whether you’re sending someone flowers or treating yourself, there’s something extra special about opening the door to their bouquets. And if you really fall in love with them, they also offer a monthly flower subscription.

Nourishment

Tabasco Mild Green Hot Pepper Sauce

Why I love it: Another little trip down memory lane with this one. I discovered Tabasco Green Jalapeño Pepper Sauce during my early recovery, when I was looking for simple ways to make food feel a little more enticing again. The original red Tabasco is too hot for me, but this green version is much milder and tangy, adding just the right amount of heat without completely overpowering whatever you’re eating.

I particularly love it at breakfast, a few dashes over scrambled, fried or poached eggs, or over an omelette, instantly makes everything a little more interesting. It’s also nice with tacos, fajitas and nachos, or mixed into guacamole. If, like me, you want flavour rather than mouth-on-fire levels of chilli, this is such a good little cupboard staple.

Available: Ocado, Sainsbury’s, Waitrose, Tesco and all good supermarkets.

Beauty

Caudalie Vinoclean Pore Minimising Instant Detox Mask with Pink Clay

Why I love it: This is my favourite clay mask. I use it once or twice a week, particularly when my skin is feeling a little congested and my pores need some attention. You only need to apply a thin layer, leave it on for 10 minutes and rinse off. Afterwards, my skin always looks and feels clearer, brighter and just generally fresher. I also love that it’s such an easy one to fit into your routine; I’ll pop it on while I’m pottering around at home and, 10 minutes later, feel like I’ve done something rather good for my skin.

Available: Caudalie on-line and in-store, Boots, Space NK, Lookfantastic, Sephora, Cult Beauty, Independent Pharmacies.

Social

Herd Mentality Game (by Big Potato)

Why I love it: I was visiting a friend and her family recently when they pulled out Herd Mentality for us all to play, and we had a blast.

It’s one of those brilliantly simple games that everyone can join in with, adults and kids alike, and you don’t need lots of general knowledge or a complicated explanation of the rules before getting started.

The idea is essentially to think like everyone else, so the fun comes from seeing how differently (or surprisingly similarly) everyone answers. It sparked so many giggles and conversations around the table, because we were all chatting about our answers.

Easy, sociable and genuinely fun. Perfect for those evenings snuggled indoors with friends and family.

Available: John Lewis, Argos, Hamleys, Smyths Toys and selected independent retailers.
