STYLE

Pretty Ballerinas, Nicole Ballet Flats.

Why I love them: One of my favourite ways to nod to a new season is with accessories. No full wardrobe overhaul required. These hit two autumn notes at once: ballet flats and red.

Red adds a new vibrancy to your existing classics like jeans and a white tee, all-black tailoring or light neutral knitwear. And for this in-between time, post-sandal, pre-boot, they're just easy to slip on and still feel pulled together.

I've always found Pretty Ballerinas really comfortable. I have quite long feet and their shoes fit me beautifully, plus they offer in-between sizes, which can make such a difference. I also love that this pair has a tiny heel, so you're not completely flat to the ground.

A brilliant little new-season update that is practical enough for everyday life.

Available: Pretty Ballerinas, online and in store.

Nourishment

Olive Oil + Lemon

Why I love it: If you've ever eaten in Greece or Cyprus, you'll know that nothing escapes olive oil and lemon. Not just salads, but our vegetables, fish and meats - so many things get finished with a good drizzle of EVOO and a squeeze of fresh lemon.

It's how we've always eaten. And this week, being back in Cyprus, it's reminded me how engrained that is. It turns out there's a lovely bit of science that sits behind this.

Some nutrients in vegetables are fat-soluble, and olive oil helps our bodies absorb them. The vitamin C in lemons can also help us absorb iron from plant foods. Sometimes tradition lands on something long before science catches up with it.

I'm not saying we've cracked the new wellness code here. We just like it because it's delicious! But I love that a habit passed down through generations has its own quiet sense too.

So this week, try dressing your vegetables the Greek way: good olive oil, fresh lemon and a pinch of salt. Simple and delicious!

HOME LIFE

Zara Home Magnetic Linen Panel

Why I love it: A noticeboard is great in theory, but in reality it can end up looking a little too much like something you'd find in an office. This feels like a more stylish option.

It's a simple magnetic panel covered in linen, with a slim contrasting border, so it's practical enough for all the things you want to keep in sight, but still looks lovely hanging in your home.

I'd use it for a mixture of the useful and the inspiring — photographs, postcards, favourite quotes, magazine clippings and images I love alongside the practical things I need to remember. Almost like a constantly evolving moodboard rather than a traditional noticeboard.

And I love that you could make it completely different depending on where you hang it. In a dressing area, use it for outfit inspiration while you're building or refreshing your wardrobe; in the kitchen, add recipes you want to try and food inspiration; or in a home office, mix ideas and imagery that inspire you with invitations, notes and everyday reminders.

Practical, but still personal and lovely to look at.

Available: Zara Home, online and in store.

MIND SET

Joe Dispenza

Joe Dispenza is an author and speaker whose work explores meditation, our habitual thought and behaviour patterns, and how we might live more intentionally.

One of the ideas I've always found interesting in his work is how much of the way we think and behave can become habitual, and the possibility that by becoming more conscious of that, we can start to change it.

I first came across his work about 10 years ago, when I was starting to explore how changing the way we think can shape the way we live. His work opened a door for me, and I went on to read and listen to so many other teachers. But now and again, I like to come back to Joe's work, and that's what I'm doing on holiday. I'm dipping back into his talks as a gentle reset before heading home and back to everyday life. Revisiting some of those ideas with fresh eyes and seeing what lands differently this time around.

Beauty

Shiseido Eyelash Curler

Why I love it: I actually bought these for my auntie, who has been using eyelash curlers for over 50 years, so I think it’s fair to say she knows a good pair when she finds one!

And these officially get her seal of approval. They’re beautifully simple, easy to use and give the lashes a lovely natural-looking curl without needing to squeeze too hard.

There are certain beauty products where I’d rather take a recommendation from someone who has been using them for decades than follow whatever happens to be trending online, and when it comes to eyelash curlers, my auntie is my expert.

Available: Space NK.

What I’m watching

Trying (Apple TV + BBC Iplayer)

Why I love it: I genuinely don't know why more people aren't talking about Trying. A British comedy which started in 2020, and with Series 5 now here, I decided to go right back to the beginning and rewatch the previous four series in preparation.

Set in North London (not far from where I live), it follows a couple who, after struggling to conceive, decide to pursue adoption. It's a subject that could make for quite a heavy watch, but it's handled with so much warmth, humour and sensitivity.

It's funny, heartfelt and brilliantly acted, with great chemistry between the characters. But what I really love is the way those characters and their relationships develop. Families, friendships, slightly eccentric personalities and all those tiny, ordinary moments that somehow say so much about the people we love. It has that wonderful observational quality that I always enjoy in British comedy.

It's one of those shows that makes you laugh, gets you emotional and leaves you feeling incredibly fond of the people in it.

Available: Series 1–4 on BBC iPlayer and Apple TV+. Series 5 is new on Apple TV+.
